Light could be the link between photography and painting. Time is the link between photography (as a painted object) and myself. These are the object that I have chosen to paint – picture in the paper format, a non-digitalised image. The painting of these pictures is not like a “window to the view” but rather like an object-thing. This is how another object – the work of painting – comes to be. The whole project and its progress and the manner of painting does not imitate media but instead creates “time”, and a distance of time between myself and the picture being painted. A complete isolation from the visual experience occurs through this distance of time (the present). By creating individual meanings with patched structures the mind expresses the pure relation with the object being painted (picture). The process itself – painting – is important as an action which moves the cultural memory. The result, the works – paintings – lose their primary purpose in a way – to create visual experience, since one of the aims of the project is also to create “temporal experience” through telling the viewer about the progress of the “project” and the problems of the selected time, and through visual and object expressions of the project interacting with the viewer himself.

All of the works are painted based on black and white pictures which were created in various situations: reportage soviet pictures given by other people, family pictures, as well as images from books. I painted almost without choosing what, how, and why to paint. Which pictures, why pictures? This was not important because to me painting was important, and how painterly expression communicates with fixed, mechanised image. This is more of a game of the mind or rather, the consciousness, with a random image. There are so many such random images in the daily life.

All of this process is an attempt to ask oneself: why painting?
