about the gallery

Since its foundation in 1991 VARTAI has gradually expanded its program from the representational to collaborative field. Co-operation with local and international artists, galleries and institutions became a principle part of the gallery’s conception. Such experience and gained qualification allowed VARTAI to become the first private institution to represent Lithuania in the 53rd Venice Biennale 2009.
The gallery focuses on contemporary art works which combine various media, including painting, drawing, photography, video, sculptures, and installations. Its wide artistic program ranges from introduction of the international art scene to the Lithuanian audience and representation of the Baltic art abroad.
